Awesome. Looks like Devil May Cry's older, more cynical brother.

I hope the game doesn't begin like the manga... with demon-lovemaking-turned-murder.

Man, I never get tired of watching that.

(Tabcef) it begins with him fighting a big snow monster named snow man

starts off in the snow storm chapter, ends with the berserker armor chapter

berserker armor is insane in the game, makes him have completely new moves that are pretty awesome (read: fast, powerful, cool looking)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGKY5ztdRFg

(Tabcef) man this dude got the arm cut counter off way too late

zodd grabs him own arm and swings it around at you and then puts it back on

I would get into Berserk. But it's a tad too expensive for me at the moment.

Coincidentally, I saw the Thriller music video for the first time two days ago. That boy was so full of promise. Sad how it turned out.

I'm looking forward to Ghostbusters this month. I might not play it for a while, but I'm looking forward to it anyway.

I was such a Ghostbusters fiend in my youth that it's not even funny.

Wanna embarass Ace? All my family has to do is bring that up with details and I shrivel up and die.

Ecto Cooler was your favorite drink, wasn't it? Not that I would blame you, that stuff was cash.

Naw. The stuff was nasty. I preferred and still prefer sour stuff over the odd-tasting junk. Lemonade and lemon Arizona forever, man.

Whaaaaaat?! You're honestly the first person that's told me they didn't like Ecto Cooler.

I tried it and it did not click with me.

Wow. MtG changed. That's gonna ruffle some feathers.

i mean seriously doom 3 didn't even have a e1m1 remake on it.

(Tabcef) All I want is to put an end to the sadistic people that wronged me. I think my sister is in danger.

Now in Central Park, I turn my right arm into a shield made of guts. Sticking to the sidewalks, I plow into a mass of humanity at 100 miles per hour, never slowing in the slightest even as scores of civilians connect with my gut shield with enough force to send their lifeless bodies sprawling through the air.

When the sidewalk comes to an end before a stone wall, I turn around and do it all over again.

I don't think anyone can understand what I'm going through. They did some kind of experiment on me. They had no right. This is about justice.

Disguising myself as a soldier, I slip into a squadron of U.S. Marines unnoticed.

"There!" I bellow, pointing a finger at an old woman walking by. "That's Mercer, he's disguised!"

The soldiers open fire. When the body is inspected, I shrug, then point at a man in a business suit.

"That's Mercer! Right there!"

Still in disguise, in plain view of the soldiers, I run up the side of a building and fall ten stories. After I land, I point at another old woman, identical to the first victim.

"Mercer!"

I run up the wall again as they unload their rifles on another innocent person, then jump off and glide toward a timed race that I see in the distance.

I'm Alex Mercer. All I want is justice.

I want that game so bad that I can taste it...

It taste like burning. and blood... lots of blood.

And if you go watch Transformers, do your best to watch a matinee showing. It's definitely not worth spending $8-10 for an evening showing.

(Tabcef) why isn't slayer in blazblue

(Tabcef) The action, as you'd expect, is impossible to follow, with long stretches cascading in on one another without the slightest notion of who's winning, where, and to what end. But that's not why it's bad. It suggests that the evil robots have perfected Terminator technology in the manufacture of a gorgeous slut-bot (Isabel Lucas), who, before trying to kill the returning Sam (Shia LaBeouf) with her go-go-gadget tongue, is humiliated by having heroic Autobot Bumblebee money-shot robot semen all over her face.

Something has creeped me out in Persona 4. I was fusing some particularly powerful Personas together and I ended up with Satan.

Friggin' Satan. He's not a powerhouse, but he is extremely creepy since his body mass is bigger than anything else I've ever summoned. I've got Thor, Loki, Asura, and some of the more powerful angels and I haven't even batted an eye in wonder. Satan freaked me out though.

Shin Megami Tensei is strange sometimes.

What other series endorses suicide imagery(Persona 3) and canabalism(Digital Devil Saga).

Oh, and I have begun to wonder. Is everyone but a few of us catching the idiocy? I've seen a lot of antisocial BS on the boards here that I've seen out on certain boards and a couple other places where people don't have names like us nutcases at gamefaqs do.

I saw a guy heckle someone and try to base him for asking a question... on a board meant for game discussion. Not a social board like us. A regular game board. I know trolling is par for the coaurse, but jeez, he annoyed me and I'm practically Ghandi in real life unless you put your hands on me.

I know it's not contagious in any manner, but I was ready to believe Friez's old theory that there was some sinister force wrecking my electronics from the inside. The chill of fear has woken me up from my Ghostbusters induced stupor. AMC's been playing both movies and I've got my nostalgia glasses on tight.

(Tabcef) 1) The public option and exchanges will only be open to:
a) very small businesses who employ 10 people or less
b) people who have no access to health insurance through their employer

Q: Are spouses and children of employed persons with an employer based option required to purchase the employer plan? What happens if someone loses their job and can't afford to continue a plan they like through COBRA - will they be forced to buy their spouse's available plan regardless of its cost and coverage?

2) Assistance to small businesses from the government to pay for employee insurance is limited to companies with a combined payroll of up to $400K per year.

3) The public option will first be available in 2013.

4) The Secretary of HHS will perform a survey of self-insured employers to determine if they are acting responsibly and retaining enough funds to pay benefits. (this could be good - protecting employees - or bad - forcing troubled firms to pay for more expensive private coverage). Typically, only very large companies self-insure. These plans tend to be very generous in terms of benefits compared to privately purchased plans.

5) The bill will provide subsidies up to 400% of the federal poverty line, up to $43,320 for individuals and $88,320 for a family of four. For these people, premium costs will be capped at 11% of adjusted gross income. Out of pocket costs will be capped at an additional $5000. For those just over the subsidy line, they could spend up to about 25% of their income annually for premiums and out pocket costs.
a) However, the $5000 out of pocket cap includes "deductibles, coinsurance, copayments, and similar charges but does not include premiums or any network payment differential for covered services or spending for non-covered services." If your preferred doctor/hospital is out of network, or let's say you have a regional health plan and have an accident on vacation while "out of network", the $5000 cap doesn't apply.
b) Note that many typical, crappy, health care plans today often have in/out of network caps, but this bill doesn't require one.

6) If you earn up to 133% of poverty, you qualify to be placed in Medicaid, or receive subsidies to offset private insurance. Your premium expense will be limited to 1.5% of income.

(Tabcef) Congressional aides said about 9 million people would be insured by the public plan, with 21 million insured by private companies in the exchange by 2019

Wow. I just got the joke that Penny Arcade made about Warcraft 3. Admittedly I am late to the party, but my Starcraft approach(overwhelming Air Superiority) ain't working here. I tried battlenet for kicks and lo and behold. It's filled with morons.

My record and number are clean with no online games. I'm essentially new. A newbie. No prior experience and yet there was no sort of question asking or any sort of time to say, "oh this guy builds slowly in a chaotic manner. He's never played a human being in this game before. Maybe I should chill and ask for some of the resources he has since we're on the same side."

No. I get the derisive BS I expect from 13-year olds on a Halo server hopped up on sugar.

I'm chill. I'm not mad. I'm just saddened by this. I made no excuses. I made no threats. I just left when someone who was crying at me got swarmed.

I'm just gonna play with friends from now on. People I know who aren't trolls or idiots.

Pardon me. I'm going to get a beer and then play Street Fighter 4 on Survival.

Console gaming rules the universe. So I'm gonna stop dallying with the losing side.

Who knew the worst stomach pain of my life would come from constipation? I didn't.

(MidnightJade21) Aw, poor Mag. I have seen enough cases to know that's not fun.

The cure for constipation is water. Lots of water and fiber and exercise and pray it doesn't become impacted. That would be bad....

That's also for prevention so, keep it up.

Sorry but I couldn't resist the advice. I graduate in two years with my RN and have cared for patients with constipation. Sadly, it gets worse as you get older.
Hope you get to feeling better. AND DRINK YOUR WATER. :)

I've been a bit different since I woke up in the sitting position. I think I'll just keep chugging water.

My gaming PC is finally finished. Me gusta mucho.

The SPA site has been transferred to Tripod. Editing existing pages is going to be a pain now; since I can't find any webpage editors that can handle the format Geocities used I have to use notepad to edit the html. So, uh, if anyone wants me to make any major changes to the layout you have until the end of next month (when Geocities closes) and then I'm pretty much done.

(Tabcef) more games need to have you starting out as some crappy generic moron before letting you be the main character who is awesome

spicy move

(Tabcef) i came back from space

Geez. geocities is going away.

That's annoying.

Well. There might be a webcomic template you can use, but damned if I know how to make it or where to obtain one.

I'll do some digging and see what I come up with.

So wait I'm confused what's happening with the SPA site and why can't I find it to procrastinate and be nostalgic at the same time?

Old site: http://www.geocities.com/spa_comics
New site: http://spa-comics.tripod.com/index.html

When I tried to access the new site a minute ago it didn't find it...but after I logged in it works. I'll check it again later. Also note that all of the images have been moved to imageshack, which sometimes forgets they exist, so if you see a broken image just wait a bit and try again.

Ace, I can make new pages with no problem. It's editing existing pages that I have to do manually. For example, if I want to add something to the update page I have to change the coordinates of every other block of text (they're all defined as tables) to move them down to make room for the new one. I could probably devise a regular expression in Notepad++ to do it for me, but it's still extra work. Not that big a deal though; I won't be adding much but a few links to comics or something.

(Tabcef) there we are, you and me.

I finally figured out how Tripod works. The actual new site url is http://spa-comics.tripod.com/spa-comics. Ace, your old site seems to be broken. I think tripod just updated something that changes how urls work. Maybe you should refile yours.

Oh, no. I'm just rebuilding the site. One page at a time. The front page is getting something of an overhaul.

No, you don't get a cut.

Beautiful graphics, whimsical style, and platforming. This is the kind of game we need to see more of.

Definitely the kinda thing I like, Friez. Has that same sort of style that Muramasa and Odin Sphere have going for them.

Hell, If I ever made a game, it'd have to be a platformer or an action-RPG in the similar vein.

Hopefully such a game makes it from development to the download soon. I'm gonna be spending a whole lot more on games like Castle Crashers, Dishwasher: dead samurai and the like than on the super new stuff. Only about two or three games pique my interest this season. Scribblenauts, Halo ODST, and Assassin's Creed 2. Maybe Modern Warfare 2 if I have time.

They don't make nearly enough quality platformers anymore. Or quality 2D games for that matter.

To articulate what is past does not mean to recognize “how it really was.” It means to take control of a memory, as it flashes in a moment of danger. For historical materialism it is a question of holding fast to a picture of the past, just as if it had unexpectedly thrust itself, in a moment of danger, on the historical subject. The danger threatens the stock of tradition as much as its recipients. For both it is one and the same: handing itself over as the tool of the ruling classes. In every epoch, the attempt must be made to deliver tradition anew from the conformism which is on the point of overwhelming it. For the Messiah arrives not merely as the Redeemer; he also arrives as the vanquisher of the Anti-Christ. The only writer of history with the gift of setting alight the sparks of hope in the past, is the one who is convinced of this: that not even the dead will be safe from the enemy, if he is victorious. And this enemy has not ceased to be victorious.

My Sagat is beastly, but Adon is closest to my heart in terms of characters I loved from Alpha. I loved playing as him. Oh no, that's not me unfortunately. Whenever I play Smash Bros. I use Link, and actually I don't have a Wii at all.

(Tabcef) (If anybody feels like perspiring [cough], I'd advise you to go ahead, because I'm sure going to. In fact I'm gonna [mumbles while pulling up his gown and taking out a handkerchief from his pocket].) Greetings ["parents"?] and congratulations to Kenyon's graduating class of 2005. There are these two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says "Morning, boys. How's the water?" And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes "What the hell is water?"

This is a standard requirement of US commencement speeches, the deployment of didactic little parable-ish stories. The story ["thing"] turns out to be one of the better, less bull****y conventions of the genre, but if you're worried that I plan to present myself here as the wise, older fish explaining what water is to you younger fish, please don't be. I am not the wise old fish. The point of the fish story is merely that the most obvious, important realities are often the ones that are hardest to see and talk about. Stated as an English sentence, of course, this is just a banal platitude, but the fact is that in the day to day trenches of adult existence, banal platitudes can have a life or death importance, or so I wish to suggest to you on this dry and lovely morning.

Of course the main requirement of speeches like this is that I'm supposed to talk about your liberal arts education's meaning, to try to explain why the degree you are about to receive has actual human value instead of just a material payoff. So let's talk about the single most pervasive cliché in the commencement speech genre, which is that a liberal arts education is not so much about filling you up with knowledge as it is about "teaching you how to think". If you're like me as a student, you've never liked hearing this, and you tend to feel a bit insulted by the claim that you needed anybody to teach you how to think, since the fact that you even got admitted to a college this good seems like proof that you already know how to think. But I'm going to posit to you that the liberal arts cliché turns out not to be insulting at all, because the really significant education in thinking that we're supposed to get in a place like this isn't really about the capacity to think, but rather about the choice of what to think about. If your total freedom of choice regarding what to think about seems too obvious to waste time discussing, I'd ask you to think about fish and water, and to bracket for just a few minutes your scepticism about the value of the totally obvious.

(Tabcef) Here's another didactic little story. There are these two guys sitting together in a bar in the remote Alaskan wilderness. One of the guys is religious, the other is an atheist, and the two are arguing about the existence of God with that special intensity that comes after about the fourth beer. And the atheist says: "Look, it's not like I don't have actual reasons for not believing in God. It's not like I haven't ever experimented with the whole God and prayer thing. Just last month I got caught away from the camp in that terrible blizzard, and I was totally lost and I couldn't see a thing, and it was 50 below, and so I tried it: I fell to my knees in the snow and cried out 'Oh, God, if there is a God, I'm lost in this blizzard, and I'm gonna die if you don't help me.'" And now, in the bar, the religious guy looks at the atheist all puzzled. "Well then you must believe now," he says, "After all, here you are, alive." The atheist just rolls his eyes. "No, man, all that was was a couple Eskimos happened to come wandering by and showed me the way back to camp."

It's easy to run this story through kind of a standard liberal arts analysis: the exact same experience can mean two totally different things to two different people, given those people's two different belief templates and two different ways of constructing meaning from experience. Because we prize tolerance and diversity of belief, nowhere in our liberal arts analysis do we want to claim that one guy's interpretation is true and the other guy's is false or bad. Which is fine, except we also never end up talking about just where these individual templates and beliefs come from. Meaning, where they come from INSIDE the two guys. As if a person's most basic orientation toward the world, and the meaning of his experience were somehow just hard-wired, like height or shoe-size; or automatically absorbed from the culture, like language. As if how we construct meaning were not actually a matter of personal, intentional choice. Plus, there's the whole matter of arrogance. The nonreligious guy is so totally certain in his dismissal of the possibility that the passing Eskimos had anything to do with his prayer for help. True, there are plenty of religious people who seem arrogant and certain of their own interpretations, too. They're probably even more repulsive than atheists, at least to most of us. But religious dogmatists' problem is exactly the same as the story's unbeliever: blind certainty, a close-mindedness that amounts to an imprisonment so total that the prisoner doesn't even know he's locked up.

(Tabcef) The point here is that I think this is one part of what teaching me how to think is really supposed to mean. To be just a little less arrogant. To have just a little critical awareness about myself and my certainties. Because a huge percentage of the stuff that I tend to be automatically certain of is, it turns out, totally wrong and deluded. I have learned this the hard way, as I predict you graduates will, too.

Here is just one example of the total wrongness of something I tend to be automatically sure of: everything in my own immediate experience supports my deep belief that I am the absolute centre of the universe; the realest, most vivid and important person in existence. We rarely think about this sort of natural, basic self-centredness because it's so socially repulsive. But it's pretty much the same for all of us. It is our default setting, hard-wired into our boards at birth. Think about it: there is no experience you have had that you are not the absolute centre of. The world as you experience it is there in front of YOU or behind YOU, to the left or right of YOU, on YOUR TV or YOUR monitor. And so on. Other people's thoughts and feelings have to be communicated to you somehow, but your own are so immediate, urgent, real.

Please don't worry that I'm getting ready to lecture you about compassion or other-directedness or all the so-called virtues. This is not a matter of virtue. It's a matter of my choosing to do the work of somehow altering or getting free of my natural, hard-wired default setting which is to be deeply and literally self-centered and to see and interpret everything through this lens of self. People who can adjust their natural default setting this way are often described as being "well-adjusted", which I suggest to you is not an accidental term.

Given the triumphant academic setting here, an obvious question is how much of this work of adjusting our default setting involves actual knowledge or intellect. This question gets very tricky. Probably the most dangerous thing about an academic education--least in my own case--is that it enables my tendency to over-intellectualise stuff, to get lost in abstract argument inside my head, instead of simply paying attention to what is going on right in front of me, paying attention to what is going on inside me.

As I'm sure you guys know by now, it is extremely difficult to stay alert and attentive, instead of getting hypnotised by the constant monologue inside your own head (may be happening right now). Twenty years after my own graduation, I have come gradually to understand that the liberal arts cliché about teaching you how to think is actually shorthand for a much deeper, more serious idea: learning how to think really means learning how to exercise some control over how and what you think. It means being conscious and aware enough to choose what you pay attention to and to choose how you construct meaning from experience. Because if you cannot exercise this kind of choice in adult life, you will be totally hosed. Think of the old cliché about "the mind being an excellent servant but a terrible master".

This, like many clichés, so lame and unexciting on the surface, actually expresses a great and terrible truth. It is not the least bit coincidental that adults who commit suicide with firearms almost always shoot themselves in: the head. They shoot the terrible master. And the truth is that most of these suicides are actually dead long before they pull the trigger.

(Tabcef) And I submit that this is what the real, no bull**** value of your liberal arts education is supposed to be about : how to keep from going through your comfortable, prosperous, respectable adult life dead, unconscious, a slave to your head and to your natural default setting of being uniquely, completely, imperially alone day in and day out. That may sound like hyperbole, or abstract nonsense. Let's get concrete. The plain fact is that you graduating seniors do not yet have any clue what "day in day out" really means. There happen to be whole, large parts of adult American life that nobody talks about in commencement speeches. One such part involves boredom, routine and petty frustration. The parents and older folks here will know all too well what I'm talking about.

By way of example, let's say it's an average adult day, and you get up in the morning, go to your challenging, white-collar, college-graduate job, and you work hard for eight or ten hours, and at the end of the day you're tired and somewhat stressed and all you want is to go home and have a good supper and maybe unwind for an hour, and then hit the sack early because, of course, you have to get up the next day and do it all again. But then you remember there's no food at home. You haven't had time to shop this week because of your challenging job, and so now after work you have to get in your car and drive to the supermarket. It's the end of the work day and the traffic is apt to be: very bad. So getting to the store takes way longer than it should, and when you finally get there, the supermarket is very crowded, because of course it's the time of day when all the other people with jobs also try to squeeze in some grocery shopping. And the store is hideously lit and infused with soul-killing muzak or corporate pop and it's pretty much the last place you want to be but you can't just get in and quickly out; you have to wander all over the huge, over-lit store's confusing aisles to find the stuff you want and you have to manoeuvre your junky cart through all these other tired, hurried people with carts (et cetera, et cetera, cutting stuff out because this is a long ceremony) and eventually you get all your supper supplies, except now it turns out there aren't enough check-out lanes open even though it's the end-of-the-day rush. So the checkout line is incredibly long, which is stupid and infuriating. But you can't take your frustration out on the frantic lady working the register, who is overworked at a job whose daily tedium and meaninglessness surpasses the imagination of any of us here at a prestigious college.

But anyway, you finally get to the checkout line's front, and you pay for your food, and you get told to "Have a nice day" in a voice that is the absolute voice of death. Then you have to take your creepy, flimsy, plastic bags of groceries in your cart with the one crazy wheel that pulls maddeningly to the left, all the way out through the crowded, bumpy, littery parking lot, and then you have to drive all the way home through slow, heavy, SUV-intensive, rush-hour traffic, et cetera et cetera.

Everyone here has done this, of course. But it hasn't yet been part of you graduates' actual life routine, day after week after month after year.

(Tabcef) But it will be. And many more dreary, annoying, seemingly meaningless routines besides. But that is not the point. The point is that petty, frustrating crap like this is exactly where the work of choosing is gonna come in. Because the traffic jams and crowded aisles and long checkout lines give me time to think, and if I don't make a conscious decision about how to think and what to pay attention to, I'm gonna be pissed and miserable every time I have to shop. Because my natural default setting is the certainty that situations like this are really all about me. About MY hungriness and MY fatigue and MY desire to just get home, and it's going to seem for all the world like everybody else is just in my way. And who are all these people in my way? And look at how repulsive most of them are, and how stupid and cow-like and dead-eyed and nonhuman they seem in the checkout line, or at how annoying and rude it is that people are talking loudly on cell phones in the middle of the line. And look at how deeply and personally unfair this is.

Or, of course, if I'm in a more socially conscious liberal arts form of my default setting, I can spend time in the end-of-the-day traffic being disgusted about all the huge, stupid, lane-blocking SUV's and Hummers and V-12 pickup trucks, burning their wasteful, selfish, 40-gallon tanks of gas, and I can dwell on the fact that the patriotic or religious bumper-stickers always seem to be on the biggest, most disgustingly selfish vehicles, driven by the ugliest [responding here to loud applause] (this is an example of how NOT to think, though) most disgustingly selfish vehicles, driven by the ugliest, most inconsiderate and aggressive drivers. And I can think about how our children's children will despise us for wasting all the future's fuel, and probably screwing up the climate, and how spoiled and stupid and selfish and disgusting we all are, and how modern consumer society just sucks, and so forth and so on.

You get the idea.

If I choose to think this way in a store and on the freeway, fine. Lots of us do. Except thinking this way tends to be so easy and automatic that it doesn't have to be a choice. It is my natural default setting. It's the automatic way that I experience the boring, frustrating, crowded parts of adult life when I'm operating on the automatic, unconscious belief that I am the centre of the world, and that my immediate needs and feelings are what should determine the world's priorities.

The thing is that, of course, there are totally different ways to think about these kinds of situations. In this traffic, all these vehicles stopped and idling in my way, it's not impossible that some of these people in SUV's have been in horrible auto accidents in the past, and now find driving so terrifying that their therapist has all but ordered them to get a huge, heavy SUV so they can feel safe enough to drive. Or that the Hummer that just cut me off is maybe being driven by a father whose little child is hurt or sick in the seat next to him, and he's trying to get this kid to the hospital, and he's in a bigger, more legitimate hurry than I am: it is actually I who am in HIS way.

Or I can choose to force myself to consider the likelihood that everyone else in the supermarket's checkout line is just as bored and frustrated as I am, and that some of these people probably have harder, more tedious and painful lives than I do.

Again, please don't think that I'm giving you moral advice, or that I'm saying you are supposed to think this way, or that anyone expects you to just automatically do it. Because it's hard. It takes will and effort, and if you are like me, some days you won't be able to do it, or you just flat out won't want to.

(Tabcef) But most days, if you're aware enough to give yourself a choice, you can choose to look differently at this fat, dead-eyed, over-made-up lady who just screamed at her kid in the checkout line. Maybe she's not usually like this. Maybe she's been up three straight nights holding the hand of a husband who is dying of bone cancer. Or maybe this very lady is the low-wage clerk at the motor vehicle department, who just yesterday helped your spouse resolve a horrific, infuriating, red-tape problem through some small act of bureaucratic kindness. Of course, none of this is likely, but it's also not impossible. It just depends what you want to consider. If you're automatically sure that you know what reality is, and you are operating on your default setting, then you, like me, probably won't consider possibilities that aren't annoying and miserable. But if you really learn how to pay attention, then you will know there are other options. It will actually be within your power to experience a crowded, hot, slow, consumer-hell type situation as not only meaningful, but sacred, on fire with the same force that made the stars: love, fellowship, the mystical oneness of all things deep down.

Not that that mystical stuff is necessarily true. The only thing that's capital-T True is that you get to decide how you're gonna try to see it.

This, I submit, is the freedom of a real education, of learning how to be well-adjusted. You get to consciously decide what has meaning and what doesn't. You get to decide what to worship.

Because here's something else that's weird but true: in the day-to-day trenches of adult life, there is actually no such thing as atheism. There is no such thing as not worshipping. Everybody worships. The only choice we get is what to worship. And the compelling reason for maybe choosing some sort of god or spiritual-type thing to worship--be it JC or Allah, be it YHWH or the Wiccan Mother Goddess, or the Four Noble Truths, or some inviolable set of ethical principles--is that pretty much anything else you worship will eat you alive. If you worship money and things, if they are where you tap real meaning in life, then you will never have enough, never feel you have enough. It's the truth. Worship your body and beauty and sexual allure and you will always feel ugly. And when time and age start showing, you will die a million deaths before they finally grieve you. On one level, we all know this stuff already. It's been codified as myths, proverbs, clichés, epigrams, parables; the skeleton of every great story. The whole trick is keeping the truth up front in daily consciousness.

Worship power, you will end up feeling weak and afraid, and you will need ever more power over others to numb you to your own fear. Worship your intellect, being seen as smart, you will end up feeling stupid, a fraud, always on the verge of being found out. But the insidious thing about these forms of worship is not that they're evil or sinful, it's that they're unconscious. They are default settings.

They're the kind of worship you just gradually slip into, day after day, getting more and more selective about what you see and how you measure value without ever being fully aware that that's what you're doing.

(Tabcef) And the so-called real world will not discourage you from operating on your default settings, because the so-called real world of men and money and power hums merrily along in a pool of fear and anger and frustration and craving and worship of self. Our own present culture has harnessed these forces in ways that have yielded extraordinary wealth and comfort and personal freedom. The freedom all to be lords of our tiny skull-sized kingdoms, alone at the centre of all creation. This kind of freedom has much to recommend it. But of course there are all different kinds of freedom, and the kind that is most precious you will not hear much talk about much in the great outside world of wanting and achieving.... The really important kind of freedom involves attention and awareness and discipline, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them over and over in myriad petty, unsexy ways every day.

That is real freedom. That is being educated, and understanding how to think. The alternative is unconsciousness, the default setting, the rat race, the constant gnawing sense of having had, and lost, some infinite thing.

I know that this stuff probably doesn't sound fun and breezy or grandly inspirational the way a commencement speech is supposed to sound. What it is, as far as I can see, is the capital-T Truth, with a whole lot of rhetorical niceties stripped away. You are, of course, free to think of it whatever you wish. But please don't just dismiss it as just some finger-wagging Dr Laura sermon. None of this stuff is really about morality or religion or dogma or big fancy questions of life after death.

The capital-T Truth is about life BEFORE death.

It is about the real value of a real education, which has almost nothing to do with knowledge, and everything to do with simple awareness; awareness of what is so real and essential, so hidden in plain sight all around us, all the time, that we have to keep reminding ourselves over and over:

"This is water."

"This is water."

It is unimaginably hard to do this, to stay conscious and alive in the adult world day in and day out. Which means yet another grand cliché turns out to be true: your education really IS the job of a lifetime. And it commences: now.

I wish you way more than luck.

(Im Not NEG) I can see full literate sentences were part of the new years resolution, eh Tab?

the angels in bayonetta are based off of scriptural descriptions of angels

hooray for enochian/the book of enoch

Actually, I've been reading the Book of Enoch. I'm a little more than 3/4 of the way through and there's been no physical description of angels yet.

Oh, the ones with the faces of a lion, ox, eagle, and man? Wow, those must've been interesting to fight. Those are cherubim from Ezekiel. Did they have emerald wheels at their sides with rims covered in eyes and move around without changing the direction they face?

(Tabcef) i really have no idea i just hit them until they die

there are face wheel guys but they aint four face

Very nice. It has all the requisite characters and gags. More on the comedic side than I expected from the inevitable DBZ anniversary special, but that's not unwelcome. I only wish it had been a full length movie and had included a more serious battle.

(Tabcef) clear as a crisp spring morning

f, k, in the coffee

i knew i could count on that

it never fails

Frieza: I come here every morning, without saying a word, sometimes without even grabbing a drink, and I fly off to continue my journey. It's kind of like what I used to do before coming to this city, but there's a significant difference. I come here every morning. It's good to have a place to call home.

Home is wherever you can get drunk and rowdy, and nobody'll call the cops... Wait.

So I went on this date the other night and the girl started talking about how professors hit on her all the time... Awkward to say the least.

this game is amazing.

"HAH!!!"

SLAM!!!!

From nowhere a heavy keg falls from the ceiling onto the bar. Ace runs right up to it and starts looking around frantically in his pockets.

"Where the hell are you?!"

Tosses out a skull, nineteen cents, a diamond, a live chicken, a zebra's leg and a lawn gnome. But for some reason, he can't seem to find what he's looking for. He glances longingly at the keg and sighs.

Then it hit him while running his tongue across his teeth.

He reaches back into his mouth and pulls out a long golden tap. How the hell it fit in there is beyond anyone's imagining.

Triumphantly, Ace stabs the tap into the keg's side and produces a mug.

"Oh, yeah," he all but slavers, pouring himself a glass of green alcohol. It isn't clear what it is, but the fumes coming from it are almost enough to get someone drunk from halfway across the room.

With an insane smile, Ace chugs back the green liquid. Nothing happens at first, then come the shakes and the green veins pulsing under his skin. He falls over, laughing maniacally.

Shuddering he lifts himself back up to the bar.

"You okay?" Trunks asks.

"Couldn't be better, laddy," Ace lisps in an Irish accent, pouring himself another glass.

(Tabcef) zach, i have a confession to make. it's really embarassing, so don't tell anyone, okay?

i like the first two superman movies better than the first two star wars movies.

to me, he was 100 percent insane. chopping off teenage girls' heads and using their skulls as utensils is one thing, but urinating in and drinking out of the same skull? that's just too much.

Just found out that Nujabes died. :(

(Tabcef) i am in a diner. and a diner is a place to eat! i almost forgot that basic fact.

(A stoic Frieza quietly but forcefully marches in, walks straight up to the keg, pops the lid off, and runs a questing finger over the bone dry bottom. He stares hard into the array of bottles on the back wall while addressing the spiny anteater sitting beside him.)

Frieza: You were supposed to save me some.

Ace: I did. But then you were five days late. The stuff loses its edge if you wait too long, MAN.

Frieza: I suppose it is my fault. I've been working too hard...hmph.

(An resounding crack fills the bar as the total mass of the keg is transformed into a cloud of splinters in a single psychic motion).

Frieza: Well then...

(Ace looks warily at his old friend as the ground begins to tremble. It is not the signature trembling of a rising powerlevel, but an uneven, muffled oscillation as of something moving beneath the ground. It grows louder until it suddenly stops, a knock ringing from underneath several points of the concrete floor. In a blink, Ace is thrown from his stool as giant flowers spring up through the ground. Squinting through the beer he's spilled on his face, the seasoned dimension traveler recognizes the colorful blossoms as native to South Island.)

Frieza: I'll have to make up for it at Easter. It's been a while since I concocted a new drink. I'll fashion it as an allusion to this planet's vernal equinox. Something sweet would be a welcome change of pace. I'll be in the lab if anyone needs me.

(Grabbing a fist full of flowers from the ground, a carton of eggs from the fridge, a cage full of rabbits from behind the counter, and a bottle of bleach from under the sink, he heads sanguinely into the back room).

(Magnus walks by and glances one of the flowers sticking out of the cement)

Magnus: Hey...I thought this place had a basem-

(The weakened floor gives way, and Magnus is plunged into darkness that knows no end)

(Insert disk B to continue)

Somebody insert disk B please, it's dark and scary here. :(

(Tabcef) Day 1:
0900: I show up right on time at the police station to examine the case file. I eat a delicious biscuit. The sheriff departs for the hospital, expecting me to follow.
0905: I go back to the police station and tell a deputy to make me some lunch.
1300: I finish lunch and go to the local gas station. I pay the attendant $200 dollars for no real reason.
1315: I arrive at the convenience store to do some part-time work for a discount. I purchase $240 worth of cigarettes.
2300: I visit the sheriff at home to ask whether he likes mustard or hot sauce. I give him a flower, he gives me an emergency radio. I use the radio to demand a ride home.
2315: I go to sleep for 78 hours.

Day 5:
2200: I use the emergency radio to demand a ride to Emily's house. I make her cook dinner for me.
2215: I use the emergency radio to demand a ride home.

Day 6:

(Comes out of the bathroom pushing a lawnmower)

Magnus: Uh...what are you doing?

Frieza: Mowing the bar. The floor was starting to get a little unruly.

(Runs over an empty bottle, spraying a cloud of glass dust everywhere. Runs over broken furniture, throwing wood splinters everywhere. Runs over a body, splattering flesh and blood everywhere. Mower jams on some loose clothing)

Frieza: Hmph. Cheap piece of junk. It jammed on the Cthulhu in the bathroom too. Maybe I should just empty the gas tank and set the floor on fire. That should clear almost everything.

Magnus: Good idea. I'll be over there not-being-inside-the-bar-while-you-burn-it-down if you need me.

Frieza: Oh please. As if I can't keep a little sanitation fire under control.

(One minute later)

Frieza: That was before I remembered how much Ace Drink and Seizure **** those floorboards had absorbed.

Chris? Wow. Been a few years since I've seen you around. I figured you'd left the Internet.

Okay. I've seen Scott Pilgrim.

Goddamn, it was awesome. Freaking awesome. The action, the music, the plot, and those little references... it was all great.

If you haven't seen it. Go SEE THIS MOVIE, MAN!!!

(chriscaffee) It's definitely been a while. I figured I'd drop in and see if you guys were still here.

Cool to see some Scott Pilgrim talk! I'm a big fan of the books. The movie was good....just not book level of awesome.

I guess we're as here as we've been for the last 4 years. There's a few people missing but there's always been at least one person absent at any given time, so that's nothing new. Anyway, good to hear from you.

Ace's unusually exuberant endorsement prompted me to go see the movie (my roommate was planning to go anyway so we went together). I give it a 'pretty awesome'. I loved the style of the action scenes and wish there had been more. The music was great, and the comedy was above par - I'm not a fan of that awkward stuff that Michael Cera does, but even that got some laughs out of me this time. There should've been more game references, though. That's the whole novelty of the thing, and it felt like it was a few too short. Overall a good movie for old-school gamers, but I wouldn't call it a must see.

I really recommend checking the books out. The movie was good but the books were amazing and chock full of game references.

Mmkay. I knew about the Mushroom Hill video.

I had no clue about the next two however. Nice finds, Friez.

So how bout that Duke Nukem Forever?

I'm not saying a word about Duke. I'll play it, but I'm not going to say anything.

I found Spud!
http://spudman2798.deviantart.com/gallery/#/dde2vp

His character's backstory was that he was Vegeta's long lost brother. In our continuity it would be a Vegeta from a parallel dimension, like my Frieza. Something apparently has him down recently though. Maybe I'll send him an email.

(Tabcef) relatable and interesting are not the same thing goddamnit

[07:15:22 PM] Frieza2000XTC: I hardly expect you to remember me, but perhaps there's a distant corner of your mind where you recall being a Saiya-jin named Spud in a bar on the SASB and punching a guy named Frieza2000 in the face the first night you met him.

[07:21:33 PM] Frieza2000XTC: Oh man, what a coincidence
[07:21:44 PM] spud2798: definitely. I'm curious as to who used my picture lol
[07:22:07 PM] Frieza2000XTC: No, they never used that pic. It was just a guy who RPed as a Saiya-jin named Spud
[07:22:24 PM] spud2798: oh
[07:22:27 PM] Frieza2000XTC: When I saw it on your deviantart (which I got to through Yoshindo's page) I figured it had to be you

[07:26:11 PM] Frieza2000XTC: It's cool.
[07:28:02 PM] Frieza2000XTC: One last thing before I go. This won't mean as much to you since you weren't there, but Yoshindo's in it so I figured I'd share it anyway.

seriously, wow

It truly may break the Cycle. the dreaded Cycle...

Seems like it's pretty good, Sonic on the rise again?

Indeed. Someone slapped the right hands, restrained the right people and fired the right yes-men.

On a whole other note...

I've come to a conclusion in Fable 3... The time has come to exercise just how far a hero can fall. So, I'm going to take my goody-two-shoes Queen and slaughter a whole village of people, then replace them all with poor folk from the city. This'll be an interesting experiment to see what anyone's reaction in the game will be.

So apparently Toonami ended 2 years ago. I'd pretty much stopped watching TV by then so I had no idea. There was a goodbye and everything. So in its memory I went through a brief history of all the major events in the Toonami continuity, and since I'm pretty sure these shows were a big part of all of our childhoods I'm posting it. In retrospect, it was pretty awesome of them to build a story around a programming block. TOM and SARA were a great couple of characters.

(Tabcef) Ludwig: "I was really inspired by the idea of examining society and politics in a more primitive context, with the world's first government being set up during the stone age. That combination of satire and sight gags is really going to work for Rock Band."

Richard: "Coming of age stories have always intrigued me, the kind of film where a young man finds out who he really is. And while he may not find love, at least he can learn to love himself. With that in mind, I couldn't possibly turn down Metro 2033."

JC: "I'd been looking for the right project to collaborate on with Robin Williams -- and there it was. Tekken."

Richard: "I'm really turned on by the idea that there's this group of teenagers -- and they have a dog -- that investigates haunted amusement parks and start a traveling band ... did I say haunted? I mean amusement parks on the brink of foreclosure. They rebuild the rides, slap on a new coat of paint and then put on a concert, all in a peppy montage. And the best part: Alan Wake is played by Robert Pattinson!"

JC: "A young man spends his whole life searching for his father, and when he finally meets him on the battlefield in World War II, his dad only has time to say one word before a mortar shell kills him: Dig Dug."

Griffin: "I have this idea for a Crash Bandicoot movie where a UN diplomat falls in love with a New York meter maid. It really turns me on, that idea."

Richard: "No one has ever really told the story of how the first labor unions came about. My vision of Def Jam Rapstar will change that."

Ludwig: "Has anyone really wondered what kinds of pets aliens keep? No, but they will once they see Metroid."

JC: "When I was eight, I was trapped in an elevator with a man who had just mugged me. It was the most traumatic experience of my life. I think I was able to tap into that feeling of fear when I was writing the script for Sonic Spinball."

Dave: "It's all about this house cat who gets separated from his family during a camping trip and stumbles upon a gateway into a fantasy world. Now he's got to fight to get his family back. I'm calling it Bubsy 3D. It's going to be in 3D."

JC: "I'm really jazzed by the idea that there's this Little League baseball team that's made up of misfits and delinquents ... this group of kids that really gets turned around by this new coach, you know? That vision is what really attracted me to the Crackdown franchise."

Chris: "I love this idea that there's this high school science teacher making these crazy experiments and, when some of the students sneak in at night and accidentally travel back in time, they manage to completely mess up our present. And that's why I'm so excited to be working on this adaptation of Half-Life."

Richard: "Communist China is such a mysterious, closed off society, so I couldn't say no to Bubble Bobble."

JC: "Three words: Kane. Lynch. Claymation."

(Hangs a bound and gagged Asian man in a Santa suit from a dislocated light socket on the ceiling)

Magnus: ...uh, Frieza? I think you may have had a few too many on your way to the North Pole, because that's not Santa.

Frieza: Oh, I know. I figured we'd leave him alone again this year. The economy is still down and the people need their Santa stimulus. But it's just not Christmas without the muffled cries and tortured groans of a man in a plush red suit, so I got us a department store Santa.

Magus: Since when do you care about the economy?

Frieza: A prosperous planet is a productive planet, and productive planets usually sell for more if you can subjugate their people. Besides, I've developed a certain nostalgia for some of the beers produced here. We can't have Duff going out of business now can we?

(Sip a Duff, cringes slightly)

Ever since SFIV came out, hearing you guys talk about fighting games and seeing some videos, I've realized that I've never gotten really good at a fighting game before, except maybe the original Smash Bros. I think I've got pretty good instincts, but I've never learned what moves flow into each other aside from basic punch combos, at least not to the extent I see the pros do it. So I've decided MvC3 is going to be the one. Heaven knows I don't have the time to master it, but I'm going to at least make an effort. Then, Ace, at long last, we will have our rematch...

Also, just checked in on AkumaTH. He wrote a backstory for Sub, merging him with Mighty the Armadillo. Probably not part of our canon:
---
Subrosian was once Mighty, an Armadillo with supreme strength. He met Sonic and Ray once when Robotnik captured the three on a Remote Island. With their combined talents, they escaped and defeated Robotnik. He was captured once more along side a Bee, a Chameleon and a Crocodile. While imprisoned, they formed a friendship and decided to call themselves Team Chaotix. Knuckles soon found the group and with their combined talents, they escaped and defeated Robotnik once more.

Since then, he was never captured again by Robotnik, using his strength to scare him away. He felt confident in his natural strength and felt that was all he needed to protect people. That was until he accepted a challenge from Akuma. Despite being stronger, Akuma handled Mighty easily and defeated him. This opened his eyes, showing him that strength alone can only take you so far. He decided to start over and train himself to be able to handle any opponent. With this restart, he changed his name from Mighty to Subrosian.

With his new training, he has grown much stronger then he was originally. He also has developed his own fighting style that helps him face any opponent. Despite this, he continues to train himself after losing battles against the Mages's Enforcers and against Silver Fox. He hopes to have rematches with them, determined to win next time. Only Espio knows that Subrosian is Mighty, as he made sure everyone do not compare him to his old life.

but that is natural, and probably frustrating
focus on learning things from the matches rather than just complaining
don't go 'ugh that's so CHEAP' just think about what you can do about it
(even if it is cheap, seriously ahvb is absolutely hilarious oh my god)

here is a video to get you excited

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVTdAOb54xI

(Tabcef) also i will fight you in mvc 3 and destroy you!!

Heh, praise from Ceasar. Thanks DP!

Tab, thanks for the tip. Much losing is expected. I think spamming broken moves and combos takes the fun out of a fight, but that's also expected and may even be something I end up having to resort to myself. What worries me is the assist feature. Almost all of my MvC2 matches were against my brother and we almost never used assist. Like, at all. So this is probably going to be a totally different game for me. I'd have preferred to do a game where you only use one fighter, but I wanted it to be one I was sure everyone I know was going to buy.

I've literally beaten people with my eyes closed using 3 sentinels.

(Im Not NEG) I doubt it'll be as balanced as something like SSF4, is the problem. The VS series by nature has always been simplified in some way to feel like more like a party game.

Not that it stopped me playing mvc2 to heck and back on the DC, of course.

Zero, Wesker and Phoenix, at this moment.

(Tabcef) watch this it will help you understand the basics hopefully, watch all parts of it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFTvXXoDNRA

the talk on zoning in the video is super important. played blazblue:cs for the first time at the same place i played marvel for the first time too, killed dudes who had been playing for years and practicing and stuff because they had no understand of the system or basics of fighting games, just how to do sick ass combos(!!!) and just owned 'em by a character whose entire gameplay was based on zoning (hakumans)

the metric of 'balance' is actually kind of bad, because 'balance' can mean boring if the folks making the game don't care at all about how interesting the actual gameplay is. super street fighter 4 is technically more 'balanced' than marvel vs. capcom 2 but also far more boring because of the method of balancing (take away options from characters, make them less interesting or weaker overall) rather than making everybody stronger and more interesting to play. the quote goes something like, 'it's not that you should nerf sent/storm/mag/psy/cable, you need to make everyone as interesting and fun as them to play'

if you really wanna even start learning throw the ideas of 'cheap combos and moves' out of the window,
knowing how the system works is pretty important, don't just go 'oh god so cheap but i win morally because i didn't use X cheap move', that's an excuse for saying you suck in the same way folks who don't care to learn how to play in ssf4 will use dan and go 'oh well i lost but it's dan so i still have honor!!' or whatever

the only metric the game recognizes in your success is winning, so if you actually care about getting better that's pretty much the easiest way to recognize your progress

assists are literally what makes marvel 100% unique and not just boring tag-team trash. gameplay isn't just about 'oh are these characters good i will choose all 3 of them', but rather team synergy. the composition, order and assists you choose all drastically change the match you will fight.

there was a post somewhere explaining this way better but i can't find it

p.s. if you can beat anybody with your eyes closed it's because they literally don't know how to play beyond 'press button for shiny move', which is fine if that's all you want. cable can kill sentinel off one hpx4-> (ahvb), and if you're dumb enough to call an assist without covering it possibly 2 sentinels at once since he's so huge

fighting games!!!!

(Im Not NEG) ...I'm amazed people would take mvc2 seriously (that video), but then, I proved my point already by 20mins into the video (and checking every round thereafter). Kudos to the commentators making something boring as heck sound interesting.

Same. Characters. Each. Freaking. Round.

I don't care how much harder Sagat hits compared to another character, I don't care if Dan is a little weaker, on purpose, so that the skilled and those who WANT to use him can prove how awesome they are by using him.

The idea of balance to 'me' is to be able to choose the characters I like and know the game is fair enough to reward you for learning that character if you choose to. Rather then know you're in a glorified disadvantage no matter what you do with that character/set-up, like in mvc2, the line was so all over the place it was just plain silly.

It also then results (to players like me) the fighter to be boring if you find out only specific characters are being used at tournies. The so-called elitists don't care, they'll always figure out some idiotic method of saying 'such and such is higher tier lawl' but if tiering exists in ssf4, the bar isn't swinging at 90 degrees both ways, I know that much, more like milimetres either side of the line.

If mvc3 is like that, would be nice. If it isn't, enjoy the party game for people who pretend it'll have depth and reward out of learning 'any' setup, it won't.

I do have faith in Capcom not making the same mistake as with 2 though. But they've stuck with 4 buttons rather then 6, making me think they're not going to take it seriously, again.

(Tabcef) dude that's a money match with $15k on the line of course they're gonna use the team they know.
(hint: there is actually a character change when neo realizes he doesn't know how to use cyclops' assist)
not that pointing that out matters since you are using character variety as a metric for interesting gameplay

do you actually have any how tiers are determined or what makes a matchup good or bad
actually scratch that i know you don't since the idea of balance and involves knowing how 2d fighting games work on even a base conceptual level (that is, disregarding system gimmicks)

certain gameplay archetypes will always cause an imbalance, it's what make an interesting game.
a dude who has a strong wakeup game (has lots of options on knockdown, ie: akuma's vortex game) will always be good against someone who has no defensive options on wakeup.

characters who have a slow walkspeed and no safe or reliable means of getting close to the opponent will always be weak against characters with normals or moves with long reach, high priority and low recovery (see: zangief vs. chun, juri vs. gouken)

can you explain why hakan is the lowest tiered character in the game, but dan is not despite dan being purposely designed to have mediocre-to-bad tools (hint: it's not lower damage, dan actually does equal damage to the shotos, and has completely different tools aside from his uppercut which does more than sagat's)

variety is good, options are good. something like you described would literally be impossible to be interesting gameplay wise, and you'd be hard pressed to find an example of a game like that. ssf4 is boring because, as referred earlier the gameplay is far less complex than mvc2 at high levels, meaning there are fewer possibilities, less options, less risk, slower gameplay (leading to less options due to more reaction fire), etc. if you only care about aesthetics of a character without wanting or caring to know how the game operates that's fine, but don't pretend like you have any knowledge about it.

actually i am bad at explaining this since i'm a scrub and have trouble following the quick and huge amount of smart as hell play going on in most high level fighting game matches nevertheless mvc2 so here's a copy and paste instead that i think is a good response to the general attitude you have since it's pretty common:

"Well honestly, the threads for other games aren't really dominated by people not actually wanting to play the game. And I seriously mean "not wanting to play the game" in the nicest way possible. The thing is, fighting games are at the bare minimum two things: multi-player and competitive.

They are inherently competitive in that the only real metric to see how good you are at the game is to play against another human. Playing against a computer does not matter, because fighting game AI is trash and doesn't even pretend to mimic a person. But in this thread and most fg threads outside of fg forums, people seem to be completely obsessed with trying as hard as possible to avoid the actual game they are playing and just mash buttons.

Games have built in combo training now and replay viewers to make finding new strategies easy for the player without needing to "go look up frame data on the internet" or whatever the newest thing confused people think you need to do to be good at fighting games. The issue is that some people are so averse to the idea of competing in a fighting game that they assume that everyone who enjoys to play them and get better at them is an ass.

When people play single player games they attempt to get better until they can like beat a boss or clear a stage. In fighting games this doesn't exist; the CPU boss is not playing the game with you, the CPU is reacting to what you do inside of the game engine."

(Tabcef) damn thats a lot of words to basically say 'you are bad at fighting games tia' in a nice way

(Im Not NEG) I got excited when the sentences finally started using capitals after this many years. I am now happy.

And of course they're going to use 'their' characters at a tourny, it just so happened to be the characters most told to be out of whack in the game for years now. That's what made it funny if you hadn't realised! Hohoho.
SSF4 less then MVC2 at the top? What?

If you're honestly saying I'd be able to beat a team like Sentinel/Magneto/Dr Doom with Megaman/Chun-Li/ServBot once learning all I can do with those 3 characters, at a competitive tournament level, I am amaze.

And of COURSE variation of character choice should be considered a game issue for developers. A character like Zangief may have distance issues against chun-li but it isn't a match decider. That's the whole point of proper balance, that any one selection of character/s vs character/s isn't crap up the fan. It also makes it more fun knowing this in a game like MVC since it's 3 on 3.

Tiering makes fighting games terrible, or perhaps the communities that play them. One look at smash bros' 'FINAL DESTINATION, NO ITEMS, ONLY THESE CHARACTERS' fan club makes me cringe and despair for the human race.

Don't call me a bad player, yo.

(Tabcef) you do understand that tiering will always exist due to the nature of the how the entire genre is designed
there will always be bad matchups

your concept of 'oh chun li has long reach therefore beats zangief' is both wrong and laughable if you are offering that as proof of understanding anything about what is going on in that match. even the statement on 'that's not a match decider' is hilariously wrong because the matchup is something like 8-2 in favor of chun.
that means that assuming both players are at the same skill level and competent the tools that chun will make it so that she will win 8 out of ten rounds.

the fact that you referred to sent/mag/doom as a team is funny in it's own right because that's not even a top tier team and has very little synergy at all, showing your understanding of the game is literally nonexistant

and you are a Bad Player (tm) who does not care to understand or learn anything about the game other than your hilariously wrong preconceptions based on fifth-hand information. psst: single characters aren't as important as team composition, and

if you don't enjoy the system or competition of fighting games beyond an aesthetic level (once again), why are you complaining about things that would only affect people who do care

fight me in 3s, i guarantee i can beat you with one button using the character with the least health

(Tabcef) answer these questions:

who are the top tier characters?

why are the top tier characters top tier?

why is this character important on this team?

how is strider top tier?

ps you are a bad player who doesnt know anything about fighting games

(Im Not NEG) The team of characters (and Cyclops) tend to be most used from what I've seen (from some play of the xbla version) as well as general discussion on the forums. You cannot say that isn't true, if you know as much as you say you do.

You also didn't seem to say I can win with the team I suggested.

I do not need to have played to the extent you evidently have to appreciate the game more then I did. To me it was street fighter 'light'. 4 buttons, trigger ultra combos, and hugely unbalanced characters, due to the vast amount of characters available in the first place. Fun, but not a serious fighter to 'me'. That's been my opinion of mvc2 since the Dreamcast days, and I hope mvc3 won't be the same.

The rest of the post was general trolling and name calling, as well as, quite frighteningly, defending the minority who sucks the fun out of smash bros.

If you enjoy that sort of thing, go ahead and play it. I simply stated what 'I' ideally would/do enjoy out of fighting games, and what it would be nice that they worked on/balanced.

I'd say I've played enough fighters over the years to know what I prefer, thanks. I don't need a troll to bash me for my taste and opinion.

See you on mvc3, dude. (or add me for some ssf4)

Cheers

I'm not going to lie, MvC 2 to me = trying to do the coolest looking move no matter how useless it is. Actually, that goes for all fighting games...

(Tabcef) what's fun and what's not fun is obviously subjective, and it's no mystery that competition is something is 'fun' to a lot of dudes so i don't really see how they 'suck the fun' out of ssb i mean unless they're all huge asses who enforce the rules on dudes who don't care about playing that way and just wanna hit dudes with mario or whatever

most of the competitive ssb players i've met are ultra chill though

funny thing is i'm 100% certain you have sunk more time into marvel vs. capcom 2 than i have, because i have literally only played it once for an hour recently, i just know some stuff based on match videos and readin' discussions on mvc3 (actually this very same kind, but even more inflammatory believe it or not) alongside loving fighting games enough to understand some ultra basic concepts that apply universally to all of them

also just to correct the team info since i am being a huge ass,
the god tier is actually mag/sent/storm/cable i think, not doom. doom's 'high' tier, alongside cyclops and a bunch of other characters but not really in the same category as the god tier dudes.
don't worry about tiers if you aren't playing competitively though, most likely you won't use the tools and stuff they have that makes them up there so it's not really a big deal. that's why it's always been strange to me that folks who don't really care about getting in-depth with the game will reference tier lists and stuff since they're basically meaningless unless you are actually know how to play the game.

and yeah im being super inflammatory, it is in my nature when it comes to fighting games to talk a lot of crap

here is a TOP SECRET video to get you excited for mvc3 featuring actual mvc3 content:
